Summer Hair Care

One of the parts of our body that takes the most abuse during the hot summer days is actually our hair. It is the part that is closest to the sun and the part that is hardest to consistently protect. If you are on holiday or just walking around it is constantly battered by the sun, sea and even sand. A hat will of course add protection, but it also keeps the heat in making the hair moist, playing havoc with styles and condition of the hair.

It is important therefore to ensure you keep your hair in good condition and utilise the many different treatments on offer to help you repair and protect your summer hair!

Hair Masks

This is a great way to get that summer hair back in good condition. A nice mask full of nourishment and applied weekly would be sufficient for most types of hair, although if you have a thick head of hair or suffer from very dry hair, you will find it will absorb more and may therefore need to look at additional treatments or more masks per week depending on sun exposure etc.

Treatments

The ideal way is to come and see us. Our in-house experts will be able to look at your hair and advise you on the most appropriate treatment. Protection

The best way to minimise summer damage to your hair is prevention and protection. If you are heading away on your holidays or lucky enough to have your own pool in your garden, before you dive in to cool down, wash your hair in cold water first. How can this help you are possibly wondering? Well hair can only absorb a certain amount of water so running it under cold water means it absorbs mostly fresh water and limits the amount of chlorinated or saltwater that would be absorbed.

You can also cover your hair in a moisturising mask which will protect it against chlorine or saltwater.

Another consideration is to treat your hair like your body. Once you have been out in the sun you should apply an after-sun cream designed for hair. This will help to minimise UV damage and help keep it in good shape for the rest of the summer, just as a body after-sun would do.

Another prevention is to apply a sun protector to your hair which also helps to protect against sun, sea salt and chlorine.
